Commentary: Proofread People! Proofread!

A drunk driving law in New York intended to increase the penalties for drivers whose blood alcohol level was above 0.18. Instead the law was written increasing the penalties for drivers intoxicated at 0.18 grams of alcohol in a person's blood. That is the equivalent of one shot of beer. Incidentally, that the human body is also capable of producing that much alcohol in the blood naturally (don't ask me how, I am in law school, not medical school). The head of the Assembly Transportation Board approved the bill before it went to the legislature and later acknowledged that there was a typo in the bill. The approved bill cannot go into effect until the legislature fixes the typo. It remains unclear as to who discovered this glaring error but I am sure the citizens of New York thank him for taking the time to actually read the bill. The story is available here.
