I'm sure there's lots of stuff going on in the world, but none more important than the return of Katie Couric to TV. Did anyone catch her first broadcast? It's not getting the
best of reviews, but I was very pleased when she announced her return would lack the divisiveness of current news shows and then I learned Rush Limbaugh will be giving an Op-Ed on Thursday's show. Very classy and did a lot to differentiate her show from the "news" on Fox. But most importantly, she was the first to reveal Tom Cruise's alien child (or at least that's what some in the gossip world have been calling it/her). It's that kind of stuff that I want to see on my evening news, for while I'm sure the war on terror and in Iraq, the fact the President has read 60 books this year (more than Karl Rove!!!), and that the President just sent a bill to Congress
legalizing inhuman and degrading interrogation techniques (including waterboarding, where the prisoner has cellophane wrapped around their face and water poured over them), are really important, they have no effect on me. Baby Suri and the intimate details of the lives of celebrities, on the other hand, really touch me, if only because they give me a view of greatness and wealth that I aspire to achieve myself one day. And when these celebrities have problems -- drug addictions, broken relationships, etc. -- I'm also touched, for it lets me know the fabulous and famous are human, just like me. Anyway, let the critics complain about her, but I only have one thing to say to Katie Couric: You go girl!

I thought this review of Couric's debut was particularly entertaining to read. These people are supposed to be professionals, but it's like they're stuck in middle school. Seriously, who cares what she wears?? It's like the news itself has become the news.
